A variety of weapons serves the purpose in trigger-happy America! Will it be handguns or shotguns, rifles or muzzleloaders, bows or crossbows, perhaps? If a group is out there against deer, which is more likely than an individual, various weapons will provide the best chances of successful shots. Take proper care and carry them up to the treestand via a sling. If loaded, make sure the weapon is pointed in a safe direction away from people.

Deer hunting tips

How long have you handled this dear little handgun or long-range rifle? A pellet shooter from a chamber won’t suffice, maybe a bolt-action gun? Did you receive it as an expensive gift? Are you aware of the dangers involved? Make sure that the weapon shouldn’t load each time, and one ensures that by looking into the barrel or the chamber. Avoid lingering around with the trigger or the trigger guard. Maintain the gun well after each shooting round, however minimal it may be. Store the weapon and the ammunition separately and avoid an airtight storage space for the defense. Ammo is sometimes difficult to procure, and so you need to make sure that you have bought them well in advance and not on the eve of the hunt! Buy enough to last weeks or months or order them conveniently online.

Besides shooting at the range, get used to shooting amidst the greenery, maybe at tree trunks. Make sure that no child is roaming around or people are passing. Gain an understanding of distance in the open when you should be able to judge a distance of 10 or 20 yards approximately.

Safety procedures while handling weapons and out in the jungle are short-term, inexpensive courses quickly pursued online. You do need a mentor and belong to a hunting club or fraternity so that notes can exchange. Do you fancy being out there all by yourself in the wild with the gun and shooting at deer? Safety precautions need to follow carefully.

Know the local surrounding and licensing laws

Who owns the local property? Is it farmer’s land, real estate, or public land? Meeting the concerned people would be a good idea and done in a group. Be friendly and polite, smile a lot in enthusiasm, and probably things would go fine with the landowners. Make sure that dangerous animals like bears or mountain lions are not frequent in the locality. Moose could be problematic too. Avoid the thick forest and stick to areas near villages and towns that pose more negligible risks of marauding wild beasts. Woods are beautiful, but not the dense bushes that offer too many hiding places.

Make sure you know the local hunting, fishing, and wildlife laws, getting a copy of the code for your private file instead of depending upon rumors and gossip. The general hunting season begins in late fall and lasts through the winter. Indeed enough time for lots of drama. Since you pay for the license and several other expenses, you want some returns as if it was a little business. Well, that should be the approach with so much time, money and effort spend.

Deer hunting strategies

Stand hunting, or still hunting? Maybe being up in the tree on a stand would be safer at the beginning of exposure to the wild since you feel safe at the height. The food dear to the deer could be used to attract them to the particular area. Deer calls also serve the purpose of drawing them. Acorns of white oak are my favorite deer food. Know your deer through research or learn from the mentor. Where do the deer sleep and their daytime trails? Droppings and tracks besides tender shoots also indicate their presence in the area.

Remembering that tree stands can be dangerous at a height in case somebody falls, take safety precautions. Would you go for a ladder stand or a hang-on? Building your own can invite danger and avoid a treestand without the approval of the Treestand Manufacturers Association.

Would you instead move through the forest silently with the hope of finding and shooting deer, called still hunting? You would stop now and then to listen or follow deer when you have seen them, reached stalking. When you have a group, flushing deer from hiding places would be possible towards waiting for hunters to take shots. In either case, you require the ability to stay silently for extended periods, maybe hours!

If it is a tree stand, get ready to try every position around in several directions. Make sure that no impediment will obstruct the shooting. Twins will need to remove. Do not forget the safety trap. Taking up a sitting position in a ground blind will also need some clearing of debris around you. Thus, the noise will be minimized amid the action.

Slowing down and letting go may be taught in religious philosophies, and it would apply fervently during the deer-hunting situation. The slightest noise will alarm the nervous deer, but then they stop to detect the sound source. So, remain still even if a careless noise makes like a laugh. The deer would soon go back to grazing if they did not detect any human or danger. If you face the wind while looking at the deer in the distance, the deer cannot smell you either.

Get the materials together.

We have so far mentioned the weapon along with ammunition and the stand on the tree. It would help if you had appropriate camouflage clothes along with the proper footwear. Binoculars are essential too. A Swiss army knife would prove very useful with a variety of small implements. A compass and GPS along with caps, boots, and socks meant for all-weather use.

Carry garments according to the anticipated weather. A backpack with a first aid kit and new batteries would be compulsory. Don’t forget common sense and a little uncommon sense too. Odor-free clothes are essential, or the deer will smell you out. Food and drink would be necessary to sustain through those waiting hours.

A tarp of the appropriate size and ropes would be required to haul the deer if you successfully bring one down. Many have fished and hunted for days without success, but it would be best to prepare as the scouts say so proudly. Don’t get too ambitious, though, and avoid being in a hurry. Haste will end in waste. In the absence of tarpaulin and ropes, there is no way a massive deer can be hauled some distance to the waiting vehicle. You would otherwise make a big mess of the booty.

Trail cameras

If you are getting serious with a bigger budget, Trail cameras will help study deer movement and habits as they do on nature television channels. Installing the camera and monitoring the recordings does require workforce and substantial expense. Besides, a single camera may serve little purpose, and you would need a few at strategic locations to carry out the study. Take it easy in the beginning, and activities may increase with time and some successful hunts!

Landmarks would help map out the forest.

Are you scared of being lost amidst the jungle? Just as we do in city life, landmarks like a giant tree or a creek, a hill, or a village cottage may serve the purpose of understanding the location. Besides, you are not likely to be alone in the beginning stages. Avoid traveling too far, restrict the adventure within a small range of a few kilometers, and hope that luck smiles on you.
